On May 11, 1964, Terence Conran, a young furniture designer and restorer, opened the first Habitat Fulham Road store in London. His ambition was to modernize British furniture by offering contemporary design at affordable prices. The brand then turned to the general public and quickly developed by anticipating the tastes of the public. In 1973, the company opened its first French store in Paris, in the Montparnasse district.
